Default PvE Ranger feedback..

OK, so I thought I'd run a ranger through the game. I suprised myself by not choosing this class the first three times LOL
However, I had great fun with a NEC in DII and again in GW, but I've stopped in presear before chossing the secondary as I'm a bit unsure.

I know after ascension I can do "Whatever", but from past learning, I dont want to waste all that plat of skills I could have picked up thry normal play.

So, I need some intelligent options here.
- I don't play PvP (Maybe eventually, but I'll build a PvP special for that)
- I am not into solo farming, and actaully enjoy team playing (probably from being a Nec primary for so long)
- I already have a Warrior, so if I juts want to bash stuff after a bad day, Im all set already in that.

So it looks to me like
R/E
or R/Mo
Are the two most flexible (pre-ascension) with planning for being a useful team member in FoW/UW later.

Pros/Cons, options anyone?

Well, with R/E, you are usually only aimed at doing spike dmg (this applies to Pve and PvP). Other ele attack spells are too costly to be effective for a ranger, as well as ele defensive spells, other than wards...

As a R/Mo, like any class with monk secondary, you can fill multiple rolls, from self reliance, to spike dmg, pet smiting, to support dmg with smiting, etc. Keep in mind again, most will be costly for a ranger...

As a ranger however, you often find yourself using purely ranger skills. They are known as the "Jack of all Trades" because they can do a little of everything with there skill sets alone.

Since you can change your secondary after you ascend, i would go with Monk secondary for now, as it can provide the most varied support skills.

I personally started as a R/E and found i didnt use ANY ele skills until after ascension, i PvP, so i soon after changed to Mesmer secondary = great support skills!!!

In the end its all about what you feel is best. Hope that all helped a bit.
enjoy

You'd be surprised by the versatility that being a R/Me or R/N affords you. R/Mo provides a re-usable resurrect and access to a few good complementary skills, but in general a ranger doesn't have time to spell-cast like a monk while he's plinking away on his bow-string. R/E is nice sometimes... there are a few elementalist spells that synergize well with specialized ranger builds. The Conjure spells are always nice, and then there's always Mark of Rodgort and a fiery bow string, or Glimmering Mark with a shocking bow string...

R/N using curses is fun. Mark of Pain, Weaken Armor, Rigor Mortis, Barbs... it's all good
R/Me using illusion is also fun. Fevered Dreams, Arcane Conundrum/Migraine, and a few others make for nice support to the ranger ability to cause conditions/interrupt.

Have fun with your ranger.
